Sacred Heart Parish offers information, encouragement for future Santiago pilgrims

the Inland Register

(From the June 16, 2016 edition of the Inland Register)

Father Kevin Codd and Sacred Heart Parish, Spokane, will host a “Pilgrim’s Mass” at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 24th. There will be a special blessing of former and new pilgrims who plan to walk the “Camino to Santiago de Compostela” in the near future.

Father Codd is the author of To the Field of Stars: A Pilgrim’s Journey to Santiago de Compostela, his account of his own experience of the pilgrimage.

A “Pilgrim’s Dinner” will follow at 6:30 p.m., where “potential pilgrims” can ask questions of former pilgrims who have experienced the walk.

T-shirts with the traditional “yellow arrow” to mark “The Way” from Spokane to Santiago will be sold for $15, and new pilgrims who plan to walk will receive a shell/conch with their blessing.

All interested in this centuries-old pilgrimage walk are invited to attend.

The event itself is free; a free-will donation will be accepted. Please register in advance to help with meal planning and t-shirt orders.
