Assignments for five priests of the Spokane Diocese have been modified.

Father José Luís Hernandez’s role has changed from administrator to pastor of St. Vincent Parish, Connell; St. Paul the Apostle Parish, Eltopia; and San Juan Diego Mission, Basin City.

Father Paul Heric is now the Director of the Newman Center at Eastern Washington University, Cheney. This is in addition to his present assignment as administrator of St. Rose of Lima Parish, Cheney.

Father Luta Nsubuga, who also has been serving as an administrator – of Our Lady of the Valley parish, Okanogan – is now that parish’s pastor.

Father Brian Sattler, previously administrator of St. Joseph Parish, Colbert, is now that parish’s pastor.

Father Tyler Smedley, who has served as administrator of Immaculate Conception Parish, Colville; Sacred Heart Parish, Kettle Falls; and Pure Heart of Mary Parish, Northport, is now the pastor of those parishes.

The changes were effective July 1.

Father Hernandez (right) was ordained to the priesthood for the Spokane Diocese on June 29, 1999.

He served as a parochial vicar of St. Patrick Parish, Pasco and St. Patrick Parish, Walla Walla, before being named pastor of the parishes in Brewster and Twisp in 2001.

In 2005 he became pastor of St. Rose of Lima Parish, Cheney, and in 2011 was named pastor of the parishes in Tekoa, Rosalia, Oakesdale, and St. John.

He later served as sacramental minister for the Hispanic community at St. Joseph Parish, Spokane, while in residence at the Cathedral of Our lady of Lourdes, Spokane.

In 2012 he returned to Pasco, again as a parochial vicar, and in July of last year moved to the parishes in Connell and Eltopia, and the mission in Basin City.

Father Heric (left) was ordained to the priesthood June 27, 2014, for the Spokane Diocese.

He has so far served at St. Rose of Lima, Cheney: first as parochial vicar, and then, as of July 1 of last year, as administrator of the parish.

Father Nsubuga (right) was ordained to the priesthood May 21, 2010.

After a year as parochial vicar of St. Thomas More Parish, Spokane, he moved to St. Patrick Parish, Pasco – again as parochial vicar – where he served until his appointment as administrator of Our Lady of the Valley, Okanogan, on July 1 of last year.

Father Sattler (left) was ordained to the priesthood with Father Heric, on June 27, 2014.

Father Sattler was parochial vicar of the parishes in Walla Walla from ordination until his appointment as administrator of St. Joseph Parish, Colbert, on July 1 of 2015.

Father Smedley (right) was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 2011.

He was first assigned as parochial vicar of the three parishes in Walla Walla – Assumption, St. Francis of Assisi, and St. Patrick – before moving two years later to serve as parochial vicar of the parishes in Colville, Northport, Kettle Falls, Republic, and Curlew.

He was named administrator of those parishes July 1, 2015. Father Richard Semple became administrator of the parishes in Republic and Curlew on Nov. 1 of last year.
