The new church for Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Suncrest, filled to capacity for the building’s dedication on Sunday, July 3.
Bishop Thomas Daly led the prayers and blessing for the groundbreaking of the new church on July 8 of last year.
He returned to dedicate the new worship space with a joyful Mass concelebrated by Jesuit Father Tim Clancy, the pastor, and Jesuit Father Scott Coble, who served as master of ceremonies. Father Curtis Seidel, parochial vicar of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, assisted Bishop Daly. The parish’s deacon, Craig Blomgren, served as deacon for the Mass.
The celebration began with presentation of the new building’s keys to Bishop Daly, presented by contractor Gene George and Steve Feider.
The blueprints were also presented, by architect Gary Saiki and Dan Byrne, who arranged financing for the project.
After the procession into the church, Bishop Daly set the altar stone into the altar, and then anointed the altar, the four corners of the church, and the Eucharistic Chapel.
The joy of the day was increased with the celebration of Confirmation and First Eucharist for young parishioners.
The parish was officially established by then-Bishop William Skylstad in 2002. Catholics had been gathering informally for prayer in the area since at least the 1970s.
