Catholic Charities Spokane is pleased to announce a fully-escorted trip to the Mediterranean countries of Croatia and Slovenia, and the Adriatic Coast, in the spring of 2017.

Bordering Italy, Croatia and Slovenia are one of the most historic, but less frequently visited, regions of the Mediterranean.

Guided by knowledgeable tour guides and priests, this “very special 12-day journey” will depart Spokane Saturday, March 25, and return Wednesday, April 5, 2017.

“Medieval architecture, tranquil lakes, local villages and Croatian charm will delight those who join the tour – featuring Dubrovnik, Lake Bled, Ljubljana, and the pearls of the stunning Dalmatian coast,” said Dennis Hake of Catholic Charities.

Among the highlights:

The trip begins with two nights in Opatija, the “Riviera of Croatia” and an Istrian gem.

The tour will explore Plitvice National Park by foot and by boat, a place where waterfalls cascade down sheer cliffs connecting 16 pristine lakes.

A special evening with locals people during a home-hosted dinner will happen in Dubrovnik, an ancient harbor town, while during the day travelers can explore the white stone buildings, winding alleys, and massive city walls of the town.

Travelers will get to visit Diocletian’s Palace and be transported back into Roman times in Split’s old town.

The tour also will explore Ljubljana, Slovenia’s quaint capital city, and float on a pletna boat on serene Lake Bled.

This predominantly Catholic region is host to many well-known churches, cathedrals, and Marian shrines which attest to the history, culture and deep faith of these countries and their people.

Arriving in Venice, travelers will journey south to many quaint villages, all the while taking in stunning mountain vistas and the deep-blue coastline of the Adriatic Sea.

Organized by Collette Travel, the tour, which includes round-trip airfare, 4-star hotel accommodations, transfers, and most meals, is being offered at $3,649 double occupancy. “It is our goal to really bring our faith journey and the travel experience together in a unique and spiritual way,” said Hake, who jointly led this year’s very successful trip to Northern Ireland.

Those interested in learning more about this tour are invited to attend one of three special travel presentations.

• Walla Walla: Tuesday, Sept. 6, 5 p.m.
• Spokane: Wednesday, Sept. 7, 5:30 p.m.
• Spokane: Thursday, Sept. 8, 1 p.m.
